The situation in Burkina Faso is under control of the new authorities and tends to calm down; there are no casualties among Russian citizens. A statement of the Russian MFA reads.

"According to the Russian embassy in Abidjan, which represents our interests in Burkina Faso, the situation in this African state is under the control of the new authorities and tends to calm down. There are no casualties among Russian citizens staying on the territory of Burkina Faso," the ministry said.

The foreign ministry stressed that they are closely following the situation in Burkina Faso and called on all participants of the inner political process "to show restraint in order to keep inner security and socio-economic stability." Besides, Moscow expects that "the new government of the country will stick to the policy of the quickest return to constitutional order."

A group of military men carried out a coup d'etat in Burkina Faso on September 30 and announced that Lieutenant Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba had been deposed as president of the country. Captain Traore became Burkina Faso's new leader. He headed the country's governing body, the Patriotic Movement for Preservation and Restoration. The military, which seized power, announced the dissolution of the government, the suspension of the constitution and all political activity. Radio France internationale reported that on October 2, Damiba agreed to the putschists' demand for his resignation and left for Togo.
