Israel must be stopped from completely destroying the Gaza Strip, and its plans to expand the operation there pose a threat to security across the Middle East, Alexey Fadeyev, Deputy Director of the Information and Press Department at Russia’s Foreign Ministry, said at a briefing.
“We believe implementing such plans is extremely risky and could further degrade the situation in the occupied territories, with the most serious negative consequences for the security of Israel itself and the entire Middle East,” the diplomat stated. “Our immediate priority is to prevent the complete destruction of Gaza and to stop the rise in civilian casualties. These goals can only be achieved through a prompt ceasefire.”
Fadeyev noted that despite the efforts of mediating countries, direct contacts between Hamas and the Israeli leadership have yet to produce tangible results. “From our side, we see it as essential to urge a swift search for mutually acceptable solutions and the establishment of a durable ceasefire, which would make it possible to move to practical steps toward a long-term resolution of the Palestinian issue,” he added.
