Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, who arrived in Amman on an official visit on Tuesday, said he intends to turn a new page in relations with Jordan.
"Our goal is to start a new phase in bilateral cooperation," he said in a meeting with King Abdullah II. - "There are many opportunities for profitable investments in Jordan that will benefit the people of the two countries." His words were quoted by the Al Hadath TV channel.
In turn, the Jordanian monarch stressed "the leading role of Saudi Arabia in solving the problems facing the Arab and Islamic world."
According to diplomatic sources in Amman, the outcome of the talks between the crown prince and the king will be the resumption of the Saudi-Jordanian investment fund. One of the major infrastructure projects worth $2.5 billion planned in the kingdom with Saudi assistance is the development and modernization of the railway network. Its implementation has been delayed due to the cooling in relations between Riyadh and Amman.
The crown prince had previously visited Egypt at the invitation of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. The talks in Cairo led to the signing of 14 agreements worth $7.7 billion. From Jordan, the crown prince will head to Turkey, the last stop on his regional tour.
The crown prince's trip comes ahead of the July 16 summit of the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates) in Jeddah, to which US President Joe Biden, the heads of Egypt and Jordan, and Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazimi have been invited.
