Following their summit in Tianjin, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states emphasized the importance of objectively reflecting the events of World War II and preventing the rehabilitation of Nazi ideology. This was stated in an SCO declaration marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and the founding of the United Nations.
"Preserving and objectively reflecting the historical truth of World War II is essential to preventing similar tragedies and strengthening global peace, security, and cooperation," the declaration stated. The organization firmly condemns "any attempts to distort the significance of the Great Victory and the role of SCO peoples in defeating fascism and militarism, as well as efforts to rehabilitate Nazism and racial superiority, justify genocide and other crimes against civilians, or promote radical extremist ideologies."
The document underscores that "the victory in World War II was achieved through the collective efforts of all nations and peoples united against a common threat." "Today, our shared responsibility to the past and future is to spare coming generations from the scourge of war and to prevent the repetition of such horrific tragedies," the SCO members declared.
The statement notes that World War II was unleashed by those "who sought unchallenged global domination, depriving other peoples of freedom, national culture, identity, and traditional values." "The brutal bloodshed demonstrated the dangers of flirting with Nazism, fascism, and militarism, as well as promoting hatred, intolerance, and discrimination on racial, ethnic, or religious grounds," the declaration emphasized.
The SCO also highlighted the importance of carefully maintaining war graves, memorial complexes, monuments and obelisks symbolizing this shared victory.
