Russia is ready to support the dynamic and multidimensional nature of military cooperation with Iran, Russian defense minister Sergei Shoigu said on Tuesday in Moscow during a meeting with Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, chief of the General staff of Iran's Armed Forces.

"Our relations are developing very dynamically and are multidimensional, a vivid confirmation of this is our great joint fight against international terrorism. We are ready to continue making every effort to maintain the momentum of our relations," Shoigu said. - "We have something to discuss about the next steps in the work in this direction. We are ready to continue to make every effort to keep our relations at the current pace of development".

Shoigu noted that Russia and Iran are actively countering international terrorism in Syria. "Moving in this direction, we can continue to do this work in different regions, taking into account that the situation is not getting any easier. We are talking about Afghanistan and the threats that exist today from this region. This concerns drug traffic and appearance of ISIS in the territories of neighboring states," said the minister.

According to Shoigu, the situation is considerably influenced both by the displaced people and by the Americans who have left, who actively continue to turn to different countries to support the Afghan refugees.

The minister also noted that the defense departments of Russia and Iran have a busy program of joint activities this year. "Today I propose to consider the most significant issues of Russian-Iranian cooperation in the military sphere," the minister added.
