Abdulatipov: it is necessary to use the opportunities of Islam for the development of civilization more widely

25 December 2020

Islam is more than just a religion; it is a state, a law and a way of life. Attempts to limit Islam to the religious sphere only harm the Ummah, Ramazan Abudalipov, the Permanent Representative of Russia to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, said speaking at the plenary session of the forum "Islam in a Multicultural World".

Islam with its rich history, the diplomat stressed, has great potential to participate in the formation and development of modern civilization.

In this regard, Abdulatipov urged to consider establishing such departments as "Secular Islam," "Islamic Culture," "Islamic Politics," etc. at higher educational institutions, as each of these areas is independent.

Ramazan Abdulatipov called Russia's obtaining observer status in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation a great achievement of Russian policy. This was made possible thanks to Russian President Vladimir Putin's support of this initiative.

Abdulatipov also highly assessed the work of the Group of Strategic Vision  "Russia-Islamic World", headed by Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov. The group actively cooperates with the OIC in a variety of directions.

The next meeting of the Group was to be held in Saudi Arabia at the invitation of the Saudi authorities, but it was postponed due to restrictions caused by the pandemic coronavirus.

Ramazan Abudalipov expressed confidence that as soon as the restrictions are lifted, the event will be held.
