Afghanistan expresses gratitude to Russia for faithfully fulfilling agreements on oil product supplies, unlike other suppliers who raised prices. Nooruddin Azizi, Minister of Industry and Trade in Afghanistan's interim government, conveyed this sentiment to TASS. However, the specific volume of supplies was not mentioned in the statement.
"I would like to express our gratitude to the Russian side for maintaining stable prices of gasoline, diesel, and liquefied gas during the past winter. While we expected prices to increase by an average of 30 percent, as seen with other suppliers, the Russian Federation honored all the terms of the agreement and this assistance was of great help to us," he emphasized during the Kazakh-Afghan business forum in Astana.
Azizi also mentioned the "good relations" between Kabul and Moscow in the field of oil product supplies. He highlighted that during the KazanForum 2023 summit in Kazan, "a contract was signed for the transit of 50 million tons of oil products through Afghanistan to Southeast Asian countries, with the possibility of retaining some of the oil products for domestic use."
In late August 2022, Azizi visited Russia to discuss Russian oil imports and food supplies. Afghanistan's annual demand for petroleum products amounts to approximately 4 million tons.
