“Afghan Quad” Supports Kabul's Engagement with the World Community

26 September

The foreign ministers of the “Quad” countries (Russia, China, Iran, Pakistan) dealing with the Afghan issue have called for stepping up Kabul's engagement with the international community to foster regional stability. This was announced by the Russian Foreign Ministry following their meeting on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, which included Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

The parties discussed the current situation in Afghanistan, emphasized their desire to see the country independent and peaceful—free from terrorism, war, and drugs—and noted the growing need for constructive and pragmatic interaction between the world community and Kabul. The aim is to help develop Afghan statehood and strengthen regional and international stability.

A joint statement was adopted at the conclusion of the four-party meeting.
