During a press conference, Alexander Polyakov, Deputy Director of the African Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, stated that African countries are keen on expanding their humanitarian ties with Russia. He highlighted that during their interactions with Russian officials, African partners consistently express their interest in developing relations in areas such as education, science, culture, and youth exchanges.
Polyakov emphasized that Russia considers assisting Africa in human capital development as one of its crucial tasks, particularly as economic growth rates remain high on the continent. He further mentioned that a significant project in cultural cooperation involves the opening of the Museum of African Culture as a branch of the State Museum of the History of Art of the Peoples of the East. The museum is expected to serve as a central platform for promoting African cultures in Russia and hosting Russian-African events.
"We anticipate that the museum's inauguration will be accompanied by other initiatives aimed at preserving the cultural heritage of African states, including cultural objects that were lost during the colonial and post-colonial periods of African history," Polyakov explained.
He also expressed confidence in the growing interest in Russian culture in Africa and anticipated that African art would find enthusiastic admirers in Russia as well.
