Algerian President: Military Agreements with US Will Not Affect Ties with Russia

24 March

Algeria’s recent military agreements with the United States will not undermine its strong relations with Russia, China, and India, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has stated.

“Algeria’s bilateral relations with the U.S. are improving every day. We recently signed military agreements with Washington,” Tebboune said in a statement broadcast by Algerian Radio. However, he emphasized that these agreements “will not call into question Algeria’s friendship with Russia, China, and other partners, including India.”

The president also revealed that discussions are underway to establish a direct flight route between Algeria and New York.

In January 2025, US Africa Command (AFRICOM) Chief General Michael Langley signed a military memorandum of understanding with Algerian Army Chief of Staff General Saïd Chengriha.

According to Langley, the agreement will help “further strengthen relations and promote regional and global security and stability.” He also praised the “deep and historic ties between the US and Algeria, built on mutual respect.”
