Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said on Tuesday that a peace agreement with Armenia is possible.
"We believe that the page of the conflict is closed. I have spoken several times about a possible peace agreement with Armenia," he said at a conference in Baku.
"I have spoken several times about the possibility of a peace agreement. These are our plans, but there are no such signals from the Armenian side," Aliyev stressed. - "As president, I am looking to the future. We will do everything [to normalize relations] if there are positive signals from Armenia."
Aliyev believes that the situation in the conflict area around Nagorno-Karabakh remains fragile after the cessation of hostilities.
"The situation after the war (the aggravation of the situation last fall - TASS note) is still fragile. The ceasefire regime is respected, but despite this, we still face many issues concerning post-war development," he said.
Aliyev also called for Armenian civil society to cooperate in peacebuilding in the region. "At the same time, we need to look to the future. Here we expect more interaction from Armenian civil society. None of them will say not only good but even a neutral word about Azerbaijan. <...> the conflict is solved, and we need to look to the future," the head of state stressed.
