Russia and Turkmenistan hold similar or often matching views on most key international policy issues, Russian Ambassador to Ashgabat Ivan Volynkin said at a press briefing.
“We note the closeness or similarity of our countries’ approaches on the majority of core international-policy issues,” Volynkin said, adding that Moscow and Ashgabat coordinated closely during the 79th and 80th sessions of the UN General Assembly.
He said the two sides backed each other’s initiatives on preserving memory of their shared contribution to fighting fascism on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War, condemning neo-Nazism, preventing the militarization of outer space, and advancing global sustainable development goals.
Volynkin also noted that Russia actively took part in Turkmenistan-initiated “groups of friends” on neutrality and sustainable transport, and supported Ashgabat’s proposed UNGA draft resolutions “On proclaiming 2025 the Year of Peace and Trust” and “On the neutrality of Turkmenistan.”
