Ambassador in Ashgabat: Turkmenistan-Russia Partnership Strengthened at Highest Levels

Russian Ambassador to Ashgabat Ivan Volynkin has highlighted the steady strengthening of cooperation between Russia and Turkmenistan at the highest levels. He made these remarks during a briefing for journalists.

 

Volynkin noted that the Russian-Turkmen dialogue is being reinforced through frequent high-level meetings. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan visited Moscow on May 9, 2023, to attend events marking the  78th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. He also visited St. Petersburg on December 26, 2023, to participate in the informal summit of the heads of the Commonwealth of Independent States. Additionally, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin visited Ashgabat in January 2023.

 

The ambassador expressed confidence that this year will see new significant meetings between the leaders of the two countries. He pointed out that the diplomatic relations between modern Russia and Turkmenistan have a history of over  30 years, characterized by friendly relations based on principles of equality and mutual respect. The special strategic nature of their relationship was established by the Treaty in  2017 and reaffirmed by the Declaration on Deepening Strategic Partnership in  2022.
