On Tuesday, Bangladesh Ambassador in Moscow Kamrul Ahsan was summoned to the Russian foreign ministry in connection with the decision of the country's authorities to ban Russian ships from entering its ports. This was said in a statement from the Russian diplomatic office.
"In the course of the conversation the parties discussed the current state of Russian-Bangladeshi cooperation, a number of aspects of which are of serious concern to the Russian side. They drew the attention of the head of the diplomatic mission to the information about the decision of the authorities of his country to ban Russian vessels carrying cargo for Bangladesh from entering their ports," the ministry said.
The foreign ministry stressed that this step doesn't correspond to the traditionally friendly bilateral relations and "may negatively affect the perspectives of cooperation in different areas."
Last week, the Russian embassy in Dhaka confirmed to TASS the ban on Russian ships entering the ports of Dhaka. However, the diplomatic mission stressed that the step does not mean the termination of Russian imports to this country. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova later noted that Dhaka's decision was taken not on its own initiative, but under the threat of secondary sanctions by the United States.
