Earlier, the rebellious Yemeni movement Ansar Allah (Houthis) reported that the alliance's planes carried out three raids in the province of Al-Jawf in the northeast of the country. There was no information about the consequences of these strikes.
"We are committed to a cessation of hostilities in Yemen in response to a request from the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)," the coalition communiqué stated. - "Our air force did not conduct any combat sorties in Yemeni airspace".
The statement also noted that coalition forces are "taking every possible action to ensure that the ceasefire succeeds and a comprehensive peace is established."
On Tuesday, alliance spokesman Brigadier General Turki al-Maliki announced a unilateral ceasefire during the March 30 to April 7 inter-Yemen talks in Riyadh, initiated earlier by the GCC. It was later said that the opposing forces were ready to hold a truce during the holy month of Ramadan, which begins for Muslims on April 2.
The rebels, who hold the capital Sanaa and have been waging an armed struggle against the coalition for seven years, said they were ready to start dialogue. However, they did not go to the Saudi capital for talks, demanding that they be held on neutral territory.
In Yemen, the confrontation between government forces and armed groups of the Houthis rebels has been going on since August 2014. It reached its most active phase when the Saudi-led coalition invaded the country in March 2015. The conflict led to the largest humanitarian crisis in the world. According to the UN, more than 24 million Yemenis (approximately 80% of the population) are in need of humanitarian assistance, and the number of internally displaced persons exceeds 4 million.
