Arab League summit to be held in the last quarter of 2022

16 February 2022

The upcoming Arab League (LAS) summit will be held in Algeria in the last quarter of 2022, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune said, as reported by the Algeria Press Service (APS) on Tuesday evening.

He denied that there is any disagreement between the Arab leaders regarding the organization of the next LAS summit. "There are no disagreements. On the contrary, we found only approval from Arab leaders from the Gulf countries, Egypt, Tunisia and Yemen, who are looking forward to holding this summit in Algiers," the president stressed.

"All the Arab brothers are waiting for the summit because of the policy of Algeria, which is equidistant to all parties and does not pour oil on the fire to provoke confusion between countries. Rather, we seek to unite the countries as much as possible," said Tebboune.

He expressed his wish that the planned summit meeting "will have a very positive outcome, especially since the Arab world needs it." "Let's stop the disunity," the Algerian president urged his colleagues.

"The official meeting of Arab foreign ministers will take place in Cairo in March, during which the final date of the summit will be confirmed," he concluded.

Algeria last hosted an Arab summit in 2005. In late December last year, Tebboune said he hoped the upcoming LAS summit would help "unite the Arab ranks".
