Araqchi Urges US to Abandon Excessive Demands in Iran Negotiations

22 October

Iran will not resume nuclear talks with the United States until Washington abandons its excessive demands, stated Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi.

"We will not return to the negotiating table until the Americans abandon their greedy policy and stop making unreasonable demands of us," Araqchi was quoted by Tasnim news agency.

The minister noted that previous Iran-US negotiations, including contacts during September's UN General Assembly in New York, were suspended precisely due to excessive American demands.

On October 20, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei confirmed that Tehran continues exchanging messages with Washington through intermediaries but considers it premature to characterize this as formal negotiations.

In 2025, five rounds of nuclear talks between Iran and the US concluded without results following Israeli military operations against the Islamic Republic and American strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. On September 23, Iranian Leader Ali Khamenei stated that negotiating with the US does not serve Iran's national interests, characterizing what Washington wants as "dictation rather than dialogue."
