Turkmenistan has proposed establishing a new cooperation framework called Central Asia + ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), according to the TDH news agency.
During a cabinet meeting, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov announced the initiative aimed at strengthening ties, particularly in light of Malaysia's upcoming ASEAN chairmanship in 2025. Meredov highlighted that deepening relations with Asia-Pacific nations, especially Malaysia, is a key focus of Turkmenistan's foreign policy.
On December 18-19, Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdimuhamedov made an official visit to Malaysia. The discussions centered on implementing joint projects in energy, transportation, and technology sectors.
