Astana Awaits Kyiv’s Response Over Attacks on CPC Infrastructure

21 May

Kazakhstan is still waiting for an official response from Ukraine regarding attacks on the Caspian Pipeline Consortium’s (CPC) infrastructure earlier this year. So far, Kyiv has not replied through diplomatic channels, Deputy Foreign Minister Akan Rakhmetullin told reporters.

“We have communicated our concerns to the Ukrainian side and are still waiting. Naturally, we remind them via the embassy, but we haven’t received any reply yet. And I don’t expect one any time soon,” Rakhmetullin told TASS.

On February 17, Ukrainian forces launched an attack on the CPC’s Kropotkinskaya pumping station. The CPC, a major international oil pipeline running through Russia, is a key route for transporting Kazakh oil to global markets. The pipeline is operated by a consortium that includes Russian, American, and Kazakh shareholders. The strike damaged the facility, forcing it out of operation for repairs. Kazakhstan’s Energy Ministry later confirmed that oil shipments had resumed via a bypass route.

On March 24, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported another attempted attack by Ukraine, saying a Ukrainian drone was shot down and debris landed near a railway station. On March 26, Rakhmetullin stated that Kazakhstan had once again raised its concerns with Kyiv regarding the security of CPC infrastructure.
