Regular talks on Syria in the Astana format will be held in Astana on January 24-25. This was reported to journalists by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Aibek Smadiarov.

"The twenty-first international meeting on Syria within the Astana process will be held in the capital of Kazakhstan on January 24-25. It was resumed in accordance with the collective appeal of the guarantor countries," he said.

According to him, information about the participants and the agenda of the meeting will be provided later.

The previous international meeting in this format was held in Astana on June 20-21, 2023. Delegations of the guarantor countries - Russia, Iran and Turkey - as well as representatives of the Syrian government and opposition took part in the talks. Emissaries from the UN, Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon participated as observers.

At the same time, Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Kanat Tumysh then said that the 20th meeting in the Astana format, which ended on June 21 in Astana, will be the last. On June 22, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry commented that the Kazakh authorities were ready to resume consultations in Astana as a goodwill gesture at the collective request of the parties.
