Astana Hosts International Talks on Syria: Focus on Comprehensive Settlement and Humanitarian Crisis

The upcoming international meeting on Syria in Astana, scheduled for January 24-25, aims to address crucial aspects of the Syrian conflict, including comprehensive settlement initiatives and the humanitarian crisis in the region. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan shared insights into the agenda for the discussions.

 

In an official statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan highlighted the key areas of focus during the talks: "The preliminary agenda includes the development of the regional situation around Syria, efforts for a comprehensive settlement in the SAR, the humanitarian situation in Syria and mobilization of efforts of the international community to promote post-conflict reconstruction of Syria."

 

 

The participating delegations will represent Russia, Turkey, Iran, the Syrian government, and the Syrian opposition. Additionally, representatives from Jordan, Iraq, and Lebanon are expected to join the discussions. International organizations, including the United Nations, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, and the International Committee of the Red Cross, will participate as observers.

 

Aibek Smadiarov, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, emphasized that the 21st international meeting on Syria within the Astana process aligns with the collective appeal of the guarantor countries.
