Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, following her victory in the general parliamentary elections, affirmed her commitment to enhancing relations with Russia during a meeting with Russian Ambassador to Dhaka, Alexander Mantytsky. The Russian diplomatic mission conveyed that Ambassador Mantytsky congratulated Hasina on her election win and expressed optimism about continued cooperation between the two nations, highlighting potential areas for bilateral partnership.
The embassy reported, "At the meeting, Sheikh Hasina reiterated her readiness to develop cooperation with Russia for the benefit of the peoples of our two countries." The ruling Awami League secured a significant lead in the elections, solidifying Hasina's position as the head of the government for the fourth consecutive term and the fifth time in her political career.
The relationship between Russia and Bangladesh has seen active collaboration on the international stage and the development of bilateral partnerships. Notably, Rosatom is currently constructing Bangladesh's first Russian-designed nuclear power plant, Ruppur. Last September, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov visited Dhaka, further fostering diplomatic ties. In November, a Russian naval detachment, including two large anti-submarine ships, "Admiral Tributs" and "Admiral Panteleyev," along with the tanker "Pechenga," visited the port of Chattagong—marking the first such visit in half a century. The exchange between the two nations extends beyond military cooperation, with growing food supplies from the Russian Federation and an overall increase in trade turnover.
