Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov arrived in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on October 30 to attend a meeting of the Council of Defense Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Russian Defense Ministry reported.
According to the ministry, the meeting will focus on "current issues of multilateral military cooperation aimed at strengthening national armed forces and maintaining regional stability."
The ministry stated that the event's format is designed to facilitate "joint work among the heads of the CIS military departments."
"During his visit to Kazakhstan, the Russian defense minister is also scheduled to hold a number of bilateral meetings with the heads of military delegations from the CIS member states," the defense ministry added.
