President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov called to ensure food access for vulnerable countries. He said this at the summit of the Non-Aligned Movement Contact Group on COVID-19 in Baku.

"An essential component of post-COVID recovery is the solidarity work of NAM states in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals, including its part on food security. The pandemic has exposed the vulnerability of those countries where the problem has not been solved and where the population is not fully fed. It is necessary to have unity and firmness in the positions of non-aligned countries when considering the issues of providing access to food resources, ensuring nutrition as an inalienable right of any person, a key factor of health and normal physical development, especially of children", he said. The official newspaper Neytralny Turkmenistan quoted his speech on Friday.

The Turkmen leader also called on the countries of the Non-Aligned Movement to actively participate in the formation of a global energy security system based on fair and transparent principles, equal access to energy sources and means of their delivery, taking into account and recognizing the interests of suppliers, buyers and transporters of energy resources.

Berdimuhamedov noted that restoring economic ties in the post-Soviet era must be built on fairness and equity.

"Here our goal should be clearly and fundamentally formulated: the restoration of economic ties should not harm developing countries, should not take place at their expense," he said.
