Biden says he discussed the situation in Afghanistan with Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin at Wednesday's US-Russian summit offered US assistance with Afghanistan and Iran, US leader Joe Biden said at a press conference after the meeting with his Russian counterpart.

Asked about Afghanistan, the US President said, "He [Putin] asked us about Afghanistan." "He said he hoped we could maintain peace and security. And I said it has a lot to do with you [Russia]. He indicated that he was willing to, quote, help on Afghanistan - I won't go into details now - and help on Iran," Biden stressed.

"We talked a lot about what we want to do in terms of stability and economic security, physical security for the people of Syria and Libya. We've discussed that," the President added.

"There's a long list of topics that we've devoted time to, from the urgency of maintaining and renewing humanitarian corridors in Syria so that we can send provisions, regular food and basic necessities to people who are starving, how to create them [corridors]. And it is in the interests of both Russia and the United States to ensure that Iran does not get nuclear weapons. We have agreed to work together [on these areas] because Russia's interests are no less important than ours," Biden said at the press conference.

Not a single representative of the Russian media was allowed to attend the US leader's press conference. Earlier, at a similar event hosted by Putin, foreign reporters had the opportunity to ask questions.
