Mikhail Bogdanov, Russia’s Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister, met with Ramtane Lamamra, the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Sudan, to discuss efforts to resolve the ongoing military-political crisis in the country, according to a statement published on the Russian Foreign Ministry’s website.
“During the meeting, the two sides held a substantive exchange of views on the situation in Sudan in light of the continuing military-political crisis. The discussion emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire and the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid to the civilian population,” the Foreign Ministry said.
The ministry also noted that special attention was given to potential additional international efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful settlement of the conflict, while maintaining Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
The meeting took place at the request of the UN Secretary-General’s envoy.
