From August 20 to 22, 2025, the Bolgar Islamic Academy will host the eighth International Summer School, themed “Bolgar Dialogue of Cultures: The Cultural Heritage of Islam—History and Modernity.” The event is organized by the Academy together with the Group of Strategic Vision “Russia – Islamic World.”
Participants will have the opportunity to attend lectures from leading experts, join discussions and hands-on workshops concentrating on two key themes: the artistic legacy of Islam and its contribution to global culture, and the role of Islamic art in preserving traditional spiritual values.
The summer school’s program will explore the influence of Islamic art on architecture, the significance of calligraphy in maintaining cultural identity, and contemporary interpretations of Islamic heritage.
Among those set to attend are Marat Gatin, Deputy Chairman of the Group of Strategic Vision “Russia–Islamic World” and Advisor to the Rais of Tatarstan; Kamil Samigullin, Mufti of the Religious Board of Muslims of Tatarstan; Davoud Mirzakhani, General Consul of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kazan; as well as other state officials, religious leaders, scholars, and experts in Islamic art and culture.
A photo exhibition titled “Bolgar—A Jewel of Cultural Heritage, Northern Capital of the Islamic World” will also open as part of the summer school, featuring unique photographs of architectural landmarks and artifacts bearing witness to the ancient city of Bolgar’s rich history.
