The resources of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member states are sufficient to control possible infiltration of militants into Afghanistan's neighboring states, Russian deputy prime minister Yuri Borisov said.
"The resources available to the CSTO member states are sufficient to control the situation, including in case of attempts by militants and terrorist organizations to cross the border of neighboring states with Afghanistan in the guise of refugees," Borisov said at a meeting of the interstate commission for military and economic cooperation of the CSTO countries.
According to him, the risk of a mass exodus of refugees from Afghan territory to neighboring countries is increasing now. "This entails direct threats to the security of Central Asian states and may lead to the destabilization of the region," Borisov said.
"I consider the progress of preparations for the signing of the plan to equip the CSTO Collective rapid reaction forces with modern weapons of military and special equipment, special means extremely important," the deputy prime minister said.
He noted that the situation in Afghanistan is the subject of the closest attention of the CSTO states. "We need to continue to maintain regular contacts through the power agencies," Borisov said.
