04 March 2022

Burkina Faso President Lieutenant Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba has appointed Albert Ouedraogo as head of the country's transitional government. This was reported Friday by the South African radio station SABC.

The corresponding decree was signed by the head of state on March 3, it notes. Ouedraogo is an economics and investment specialist and has headed a consulting firm since 2007. The new prime minister is 53 years old.

The military revolted in Burkina Faso on January 23, 2022, and seized power 24 hours later. They announced the ouster of President Roch Marc Christian Kabore, the suspension of the constitution, and the dissolution of the government and parliament. Lieutenant Colonel Damiba, the leader of the military who seized power, was declared president by the Constitutional Council of Burkina Faso and took the oath of office as head of state on February 16.
