Burkina Faso Calls for Increased Presence of Russian Military Instructors

16 October

Burkina Faso has expressed interest in increasing the number of Russian military instructors within its borders and in securing more arms supplies from Russia to combat terrorism, Burkina Faso Prime Minister Joachim Kyelem said.

“We are entering a new phase of bilateral cooperation with Russia,” Burkina 24 quoted the prime minister as saying. “Burkina Faso requires an expanded contingent of Russian military instructors in the country, as well as increased arms supplies from Russia to fight terrorism and safeguard its sovereignty.”

According to Kyelem, "Russia is the ideal partner in the fight against terrorism," citing the country's military strength and its ability to stand up to the West as proof of its capabilities.

The prime Mmnister also highlighted that from January to July 2024, the volume of bilateral trade between Russia and Burkina Faso grew fivefold compared to the same period in 2023.
