Cabinet of Ministers approves draft note of Ministry of Foreign Affairs on opening Russian Consulate General in the Maldives

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has signed an order to conclude an agreement between the government of the Russian Federation and the government of the Republic of Maldives on the establishment of the Russian Consulate General in the city of Male by means of an exchange of notes. The document was published on Thursday on the official Internet portal of legal information.


"<...> to accept the proposal of the Russian Foreign Ministry, agreed with the interested federal executive authorities and previously worked out with the Maldivian side, to conclude by exchange of notes an agreement between the government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Maldives on the establishment of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Male," the document says.


The cabinet also approved the draft note from the Russian side. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was entrusted to exchange notes constituting the agreement on behalf of the Russian government.


According to the draft, the Russian Embassy in Sri Lanka and the Republic of Maldives in order to promote economic, cultural, other ties between the countries and expand contacts between citizens on behalf of the Russian government requests the consent of the Maldivian side to establish the Consulate General of Russia in the city of Male. In the event of a positive decision, Russia also requests the necessary assistance in resolving all issues relating to its opening.
