Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called on the international community to remain attentive to the situation in Gaza, despite the ongoing efforts to address the crisis in Ukraine. Speaking at a high-level UN Security Council meeting on global governance reforms, Wang emphasized the need for balanced attention to multiple conflicts.
“While all parties are currently focused on the Ukrainian crisis, the world is facing many other pressing issues, including the conflict in Gaza. These crises also demand international attention and should not be sidelined,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry quoted Wang as saying.
He also highlighted the long-standing failure to fully implement the UN resolution on the two-state solution. “It has been more than 70 years since the UN adopted a resolution on the creation of two states—Palestine and Israel. Yet, only one part of that decision has been realized. The State of Israel has existed for a long time, but the Palestinian people still have no country of their own,” he stated.
On January 15, reports confirmed that Israel and Hamas had reached an agreement to release hostages and implement a ceasefire. The three-phase deal, which took effect on January 19, outlines a 42-day initial phase during which Hamas must release at least 33 Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinians held in Israeli jails. So far, 19 hostages have returned to Israel.
