Secretary-General of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly (IPA) Council Dmitry Kobitsky has confirmed that Azerbaijan is prepared to conduct extraordinary parliamentary elections, which began on February 7.
Speaking to reporters at a polling station in Baku, Kobitsky stated, "We can confidently say that the country is ready for the elections."
Kobitsky further commented on the high level of organization surrounding the election campaign in Azerbaijan. Meanwhile, the nation is simultaneously holding extraordinary presidential elections, with seven candidates vying for the presidency, including the incumbent President Ilham Aliyev, who is seeking his fifth term. The polling stations opened at 08:00 local time (07:00 Moscow time) and will remain open until 19:00 local time (18:00 Moscow time). The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan intends to release initial data approximately two hours post-closing, around 21:00 local time (20:00 Moscow time), with preliminary results expected to be announced on February 9.
As per the CEC's estimates, there are 90,372 observers monitoring the elections, comprising roughly 89,000 local observers and around 800 international observers from 72 different organizations.
