CIS Secretary-General: The West Has No Moral Right to Lecture on Elections

27 January

Western nations have no moral authority to lecture CIS countries on how to conduct elections, stated CIS Secretary-General and head of the CIS election observation mission in Belarus, Sergey Lebedev. His remarks followed a meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

"They (Western countries) have absolutely no moral right to judge our elections. I spent many years working in the West, in West Germany and the United States. I’ve seen their so-called 'democracy' with my own eyes. What are they even talking about? They have no moral grounds to teach us," Belarusian news agency BelTA quoted Lebedev as saying.
