The government of the Union of Comoros has approved Russia’s request to establish an embassy in the country, according to a statement from the Comorian Foreign Ministry shared on X.
"The government of the Comoros grants approval for the Russian Federation to open an embassy in our country," the statement reads. "The establishment of this diplomatic mission in Moroni will further strengthen the long-standing bilateral relations between our nations and create new opportunities for cooperation. The Russian authorities can count on our full support in this process."
On February 19, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced Moscow’s plans to open seven new embassies across Africa by 2026. In addition to Comoros, new Russian diplomatic missions are set to open in Gambia, Liberia, Niger, Sierra Leone, Togo, and South Sudan.
