Coup attempt thwarted in Burkina Faso

An attempted coup d'état was staged last week in Burkina Faso and failed. This was announced by President Ibrahim Traore during a meeting on December 1 with civil society organizations.
 

"I know who was behind the coup attempt and I know it was paid for," Radio France internationale quoted the head of state as saying on Friday. - "The situation is under control." Traore stressed that he prefers dialogue to solve the problems facing the country.
 

The LeFaso  news portal  reports that the failed coup attempt was carried out, apparently on November 27. According to it, it included an assassination attempt on Traore.
 

A military group led by Capt. Ibrahim Traore staged a coup d'état in Burkina Faso on September 30, 2022, deposing Lt. Col. Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba as president of the country. Damiba, who came to power last January in a coup d'état, signed a document on October 2 voluntarily stepping down as president. Traoré took the oath of office as transitional president of Burkina Faso on October 21.
