CSTO Takes Measures to Counteract Terrorist Threat from Afghanistan

16 November 2023

Colonel General Anatoly Sidorov, the Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff, mentioned that the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is implementing measures to address the terrorist threat emanating from the territory of Afghanistan.

"As of today, there is no spillover problem related to military security or military threats emanating from the territory of Afghanistan. However, we acknowledge that the current leadership of Afghanistan does not yet fully control the situation within the state, particularly in the northern areas bordering CSTO member states. Consequently, specific measures are being implemented," he responded when asked about the ongoing terrorist threat from Afghanistan to CSTO member countries.

Simultaneously, Sidorov pointed out that the issue of drug trafficking originating from Afghanistan persists. "Therefore, challenges exist, but solutions can be found. I believe there will come a time when this issue will be resolved," added the chief of joint staff.
