Doctors in Nigeria commence indefinite strike

26 July 2023

Doctors in public hospitals across Nigeria have initiated an indefinite strike, as reported by the Nigerian version of The Guardian newspaper.

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) is the organizer of the strike, advocating for higher salaries, improved working conditions, and the settlement of outstanding payments.

The NARD comprises university graduates undertaking compulsory internships at various public hospitals. Approximately 16,000 medical practitioners are part of this association, while the Nigerian health system employs a total of 42,000 doctors.
