EAEU to Sign Free Trade Agreements with Mongolia and UAE in June – Russian Ministry

28 May

The member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) are set to sign free trade agreements (FTAs) with Mongolia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during the 4th Eurasian Economic Forum in Minsk this June, Russia’s Ministry of Economic Development told Izvestia.

“The agreements with Mongolia and the UAE are essentially ready for signing. Negotiations have been completed on both tracks, and domestic approval procedures are currently underway. If everything proceeds according to plan, we aim to sign both agreements in June in Minsk,” the ministry stated.

According to the ministry, negotiations with Indonesia have reached their final stage. Russia, together with the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), is working to conclude the deal.

“There are only a few remaining tariff lines that need to be agreed upon. If we can achieve mutual understanding with our Indonesian partners in the near term, the agreement could be signed by the end of the year,” the ministry added.

The EAEU is also advancing toward launching FTA negotiations with Tunisia. A joint research group is actively working on preparing for official talks. In addition, Morocco is on the union’s list of potential free trade partners.

Earlier, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk told Rossiyskaya Gazeta that the EAEU is close to signing FTAs with two more countries, which would further improve market access for producers within the union.
