The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) delegation will visit Burkina Faso, where a coup d'état took place, on October 3. This was stated in a statement issued Sunday by the organization's president, Umaro Sisoko Embalo, President of Guinea-Bissau.

"As part of ECOWAS' commitment to peace and stability in Burkina Faso, the ECOWAS delegation will visit Burkina Faso on Monday, October 3, 2022," it said. The delegation will be led by Suzi Carla Barbosa, Head of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Communities of Guinea-Bissau.

The ECOWAS president noted the decision of Lieutenant Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba to step down as head of state "to avoid a violent confrontation and possible bloodshed."
