Since the ceasefire agreement came into effect in the Gaza Strip, Egypt has sent over 5,000 trucks loaded with humanitarian aid to the enclave. This announcement was made by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in response to comments made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“Egypt does not approve of the rhetoric used by Netanyahu during an interview with an American media outlet, as such statements undermine the extensive efforts Egypt has made to assist Gaza. Since the ceasefire took effect, more than 5,000 trucks carrying humanitarian supplies have entered Gaza from the Egyptian side, and the exit process for the wounded, the sick, and dual citizens has been significantly simplified,” the statement said.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry also emphasized its rejection of “any calls to relocate Palestinians—whether to Egypt, Jordan, or Saudi Arabia—and expresses solidarity” with the residents of Gaza.
Earlier, Netanyahu accused Cairo during a Fox News interview of allegedly not allowing Palestinians from Gaza, who wished to leave the enclave, to cross into Egypt. “Even before the war, I received requests from Gaza residents who wanted to leave, but their neighbor—Egypt—wouldn’t let them. They were trapped [in Gaza]. The wealthiest among them were able to bribe Egyptian border guards and escape, but others couldn’t leave—give them that opportunity,” Netanyahu said in an indirect appeal to Egyptian authorities.
