Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty spoke by phone with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on the deployment of a peacekeeping contingent to Gaza. The discussion was outlined in a press release from Egypt’s foreign ministry.
“International peacekeeping forces must be provided with all necessary conditions to carry out their mission, namely maintaining the ceasefire in Gaza,” Abdelatty was quoted as saying. During the conversation, the ministers also stressed the importance of UN Security Council Resolution 2803 on Gaza and the transition to the second phase of the ceasefire agreement.
On November 3, Axios reported, citing sources, that the United States was holding closed-door talks with several countries on forming an international stabilization force for Gaza. It could include personnel from Azerbaijan, Egypt, Indonesia, and Turkey, as well as units of the Palestinian police.
On November 17, the UN Security Council adopted a US‑drafted resolution endorsing President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Gaza. Following the vote, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, stated that the success of the peacekeeping initiative would be measured by the extent to which it “can truly ensure a sustainable peace where Israel and Palestine coexist peacefully and securely within the 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as the capital of both states, in accordance with UN Security Council and General Assembly resolutions, international law, and previously reached agreements.”
