Egyptian President discusses events in Sudan, Syria, Libya with Putin

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi held discussions with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg on Wednesday, addressing various regional and international matters, with a particular focus on the situations in Sudan, Syria and Libya. The discussions were reported by President el-Sisi's office.

 

According to the Egyptian leader's spokesman, during the talks, the presidents discussed regional and international issues of mutual interest. They exchanged views on Middle East crises, including the situations in Sudan, Syria, Libya and the Palestinian issue. Both leaders agreed to work together to restore and strengthen security, stability and peace in the region, while safeguarding the unity and sovereignty of their lands and the legitimate rights of their peoples.

 

"In the meeting, both presidents discussed various aspects of bilateral relations, including the projects concerning the El Dabaa nuclear power plant and the Russian industrial zone. Additionally, they explored opportunities for cooperation in the development of transportation and railway systems, as well as joint efforts in the field of security and counter-terrorism," el-Sisi's office stated.

 

 

Regarding the Ukraine crisis, el-Sisi "reiterated Egypt's support for all initiatives aimed at achieving an early political resolution through peaceful means." He emphasized the importance of reducing human suffering and putting an end to the adverse economic repercussions, particularly for developing and African nations.

 

Egypt is part of a seven-nation African initiative group that is collaboratively working on a plan for a peaceful resolution to the situation concerning Ukraine. As part of the forum events, Putin is scheduled to hold a separate meeting with this group on Friday, July 28.

 

The bilateral talks between el-Sisi and Putin were held on Wednesday evening at the Konstantinovsky Palace in Strelna, ahead of the Russia-Africa forum and summit that commenced in St. Petersburg on Thursday.
