Egyptian President in Conversation with Palestinian Leader Wishes Success for New Cabinet

01 April

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi extended his congratulations to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on the establishment of a new government, offering his best wishes for its success. This news was shared in a press release following a telephone conversation between the two leaders, delivered by the Egyptian president's official spokesman, Ahmed Fahmy.

"Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi held a telephone conversation with his Palestinian counterpart Mahmoud Abbas, during which he congratulated him on the inauguration of a new government led by Mohammad Mustafa. He expressed his hopes for the new cabinet's success in achieving the Palestinian people's aspirations," Fahmy stated on his Facebook page (banned in Russia; property of the Meta Corporation, designated as extremist in Russia). President el-Sisi assured continued comprehensive support from Egypt to the Palestinian leadership and its people. The presidents also concurred on the necessity of working towards a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and enhancing the provision of humanitarian aid to the region.

On Sunday evening, the new Palestinian government, headed by Mohammad Mustafa, took the oath of office and officially commenced its duties. The swearing-in ceremony was held in Ramallah, the administrative capital of the Palestinian National Authority, with  Abbas in attendance. On March 28, Abbas had confirmed the new cabinet's lineup and the reform agenda presented by its leader. The documents reveal that the new government's priorities include providing support to Palestinian citizens, especially those in the Gaza Strip, and reconstructing areas of Gaza and the West Bank that have been affected by Israeli military activities. Subsequently, the government plans to invigorate the economy by engaging more women and youth, collaborating with the private sector, and overhauling the public financial system to increase transparency and efficiency. Moreover, the government is preparing for institutional reforms, such as the digitalization of public services and modifications to the judicial system.
