Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Monday he intends to discuss the tension between Russia and Ukraine and what steps can be taken to reduce it during his visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
"The crisis between Ukraine and Russia is the most important topic in terms of developments in our region. During the visit, we intend to discuss not only relations between Turkey and the UAE, but also developments in the region. We will also discuss what steps we can take," the Turkish president said at a news conference in Istanbul before flying to the UAE. The TV channel TRT broadcasted the event.
Lately, there have been statements in Western countries as well as in Ukraine about a possible Russian invasion of Ukrainian territory. The press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, called such information an empty and groundless escalation of tension. Peskov stressed that Russia posed no threat to anyone. At the same time, he did not rule out the possibility of provocations to justify such statements and warned that attempts to resolve the crisis in southeastern Ukraine by force would have the most serious consequences.
