Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan says Turkey is ready to act as a mediator between Iran and the United States. During a telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, he emphasized his country's goal of de-escalating the current regional friction.
"The discussion focused on bilateral relations between Turkey and Iran, as well as the ongoing military escalation in the region. President Erdoğan stressed that Turkey is prepared to serve as a mediator in relations between Iran and the US to reduce tensions and resolve existing issues," the Turkish leader's office reported.
Additionally, Erdoğan informed Pezeshkian of his plans to receive Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on January 30, following the minister's arrival in Ankara for official talks.
