Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that international recognition of Palestine will not yield results unless accompanied by strict sanctions on Israel.
“Certainly, declarations by some countries to recognize the State of Palestine are a positive step. This should have been done earlier. However, such steps are unlikely to bring results if they are not backed by concrete and tough sanctions against Israel,” Erdoğan said during his address at the extraordinary summit of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Doha.
Erdoğan highlighted that following Israel’s strike on Hamas representatives in Qatar, “there is no longer any doubt that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government’s main goal is to continue the massacre and genocide in Palestine while dragging the entire region into chaos without exceptions.”
He described Israeli authorities as having a “terrorist mentality fueled by chaos and bloodshed,” which openly violates the UN Charter, international law, and undermines the rules-based international order due to impunity for these crimes. Recently, some overconfident Israeli politicians have repeatedly voiced illusions about a “Greater Israel,” and Israel’s efforts to expand occupation into neighboring countries are a clear manifestation of this goal, Erdoğan said.
The Turkish leader reminded that after Palestine, Israel attacked Lebanon, Yemen, Iran, and Syria, targeted civilian vessels off Tunisia’s coast, and assassinated politicians and officials. “Now it has attacked Qatar. This attack escalates Israeli banditry to a new level. In this regard, I consider today’s summit very important and significant. The world community has turned its attention to the Islamic world. Qatar should view this meeting as an expression of its unconditional support,” Erdoğan added.
