Erdogan: War Lobbyists Sabotaged Implementation of Istanbul Agreements Between Russia and Ukraine

30 May

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has stated that the Istanbul agreements between Russia and Ukraine were sabotaged by groups lobbying for the continuation of the war. He made these remarks during a live television address to servicemen at the Efes-2024 military exercise.

"Next to us, between our neighbors on the Black Sea, Russia and Ukraine, war has been ongoing for the third year. The Istanbul process, to which we dedicated significant efforts and which aimed at reaching fair peace agreements, was unfortunately sabotaged and blocked by war lobbyists who obstructed it," Erdogan said.

He further added that "no one knows when and how the war will end," and noted that this prolonged uncertainty "constantly increases the financial costs to the region and the world."
