Russia is building strong, tangible relations with Iran, while the West can only impose sanctions and make offensive statements. This view was expressed by Iranian political analyst and professor, Ruhollah Modabber, in an interview with TASS, commenting on Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin’s visit to Tehran.
“Mishustin’s visit to Tehran reflects the friendly and brotherly cooperation between Russia and Iran, as well as Moscow's determination to develop bilateral partnerships. This visit is particularly significant because in recent weeks at the UN, representatives of France, Germany, the EU, and the US have been making offensive and interventionist statements, trying to drive a wedge between Iran and Russia. Meanwhile, the US and the European trio (the UK, Germany, and France) have imposed new extensive sanctions against Tehran,” said Modabber.
“Russia is Iran’s best friend. The Iranian government, politicians, and ordinary people should understand that the West is deceitful and hypocritical, its promises are false, whereas agreements with Russia are solid and genuine. Russia invests in Iran, engages in large-scale energy and infrastructure projects, and is building the North-South corridor. At the same time, the US and the European trio impose sanctions on Iran and offer no projects that benefit the Iranian people,” the political analyst added.
He went on to criticize the belief within some factions of Iran's government that the US and the European trio are open to negotiation, pointing out that pro-Western supporters within Iran are trying to convince others that dialogue with these nations is possible. “However, we know that neither the US nor the European trio has any plans to establish cooperation with Iran or lift sanctions. On the contrary, they continue to impose harsher restrictions and attempt to damage Russia-Iran relations, knowing Russia’s positive approach toward Iran. This is why pro-Western media and their supporters constantly push propaganda, working in the interests of London and Washington to undermine the partnership between Iran and Russia,” he emphasized.
The expert highlighted that “Russia has always remained a true friend to Iran under all circumstances,” while the West has no intention of easing anti-Iran sanctions. He called statements to the contrary false and stressed that the development of a partnership with Russia should be taken seriously.
On September 30, Mishustin visited the Iranian capital, where he met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. This meeting marked the first high-level discussions between the two leaders since Pezeshkian’s election as head of Iran’s executive branch in July 2024. In October, at the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to hold talks with his Iranian counterpart, where they plan to sign a bilateral treaty on comprehensive strategic partnership.
