Kazakhstan should become a reliable bridge between China and Russia against the backdrop of US President Donald Trump’s policies. This view was expressed by Bulat Sultanov, Director of the Research Institute for International and Regional Cooperation at the Kazakh-German University, during a discussion at the 5th Central Asian Conference of the Valdai Discussion Club.
“We need to learn how to work more closely with Russia and the Central Asian countries. Trump is going to put pressure on China, while Russia is at odds with Europe,” he noted.
According to the expert, at a time when the two powers are essentially locked in confrontation, Kazakhstan should pursue a different approach. “We need to act as a reliable bridge between China and Russia. That should be our primary focus,” Sultanov stressed.
He also emphasized that building strong relations with China, Russia, and the Central Asian countries is one of Kazakhstan’s top priorities.
